The Battle for Bread

Bread is a necessary part of my diet.  And, if I can eat healthful bread, it doesn’t necessarily need to be detrimental to my health as it has been in the past.  Yes, I have a habit of favoring very doughey white baguettes, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get on board with a delicious wheat.  But, traditionally, when buying bread I’ve been more interested in how little I could get out of it, as in how little the calories were.  Now, I’m interested in how much I can get out of my bread, as in nutrients, fiber and such.  In the quest for bread, my husband and I spent nearly 20 minutes reading labels in the bread aisle of the local supermarket.  It took that long to find the more expensive, yet nutritious choice.  What freaked me out though wasn’t the high number of calories in the breads but how over processed they were and how many (nearly all) had high fructose corn syrup in them.  This HFCS is sneaking into everything it seems!   My husband finally found a bread that didn’t have HFCS in it.  I have to admit it looked healthy, not delcious.  Well, I was pleasantly surprised.

Organics breads are about 80 calories a slice and they pack a punch.  The bread is thick and delicous and the seeds add a bite and a little nutty flavor.  What I’ve noticed since switching bread is how much a healthy bread packing fiber and protein fill you up.  A simple sandwich suddenly is filling and deliciou.  I reccomend it!
